Open-Source Postgresql (sometimes also reduced to AS postgres) is obviously a very hot commodity for Big Enterprise Data Platform.
Snowflake receives privately based data on the Provider PostgreSQL provider in an agreement that is reported worth $ 250 million. The acquisition comes barely two weeks after the rival Databricks Snowflake won the seller without the PostgreSQL Neon server. The PostgreSQL acquisition pair emphasizes the critical importance of the Open-Source database for modern business data and workflows AI.
Unlike Neon, which was only a three-year-on-end Company, Crinchy has existed data for more than ten years, founded in 2012. The company’s basic platform, Crunch Postgres, is managed, automated and fully with Versont. There is also a specific version of the Kubernetes platform around the surroundings and a new product called Crunchy Data Warehouse, which brings the platform to the Lake Data environment.
According to Snowflake, Crunchy technology will be the basis of a new offer known as Snowflake Postgres. It allows users to combine Crunchy Data’s Enterprise-Grade and Developer-Friendly Postgres Postgres in a secure and controlled Snowflake circuit. The aim is to simplify how developers create, deploy and scale agents prepared for production.
“In our discussions, it quickly turned out that the Sans trends that saw crispy data from the operating database world were also evident on the snowflake,” wrote Paul Laurence, co -founder of crunchy data. “With today’s announcement, we focus on the large market of online transaction processing (OLTP), using a flexible, scalable solution for business workloads and developers to use Snowflake and crunchy data.
What PostgreSQL support brings Snowflake
Snowflake has its data cloud platform that provides a cloud warehouse for its business customers.
While Snowflake has a growing customer base, it is not the same as the PostgreSQL community with an open source code. It has emerged that PostgreSQL will become a very popular database, not only for traditional business applications, but also for AI. After all, Databricks got Neon.
It also expands in a solid development community. Sanjeev data analyst Mohan said Venturebeat that in his opinion it is an excellent acquisition.
“Unlike Neon, Crunchy is really a business,” Mohan said.
He added that crispy data has a very deep PostgreSQL community and is also connected to Kubernetes. Crispy data is not only focused on PostgreSQL for operational workload; It is also a support for analytics. PostgreSQL was originally only a database of OLTP (online transaction processing), but was extended by crispy data and other suppliers such as Google, with its alloy to also support the workload of the OLAP (Online Analytics) database.
Overall, Mohan is very positive on the continuing prospect of PostgreSQL for business use of boxes.
“The community was constantly adding exceptional skills not only for traditional relational and SQL use, but also for time for time series, JSON and vector search, and at the same time boasts some of the best available geo -space features,” he said.
Why PostgreSql depends on the snowflake and its business users
PostgreSQL is widely used in the company. But perhaps even more importantly, developers are increasingly using it as a basis for AI. This is another key reason why Databricks has acquired Neon and why Snowflake is now getting crunchy data.
Everything is part of a wider multi -year effort on Snowflake to involve developers in an open manner.
“PostgreSQL popularity with developers associated with the support of Crunchydata for glacier data storage is well coped with the basic Snowflake strategy,” said Kevin Petrie, Vice President for Barc Research.
Apache Iceberg is a desktop table with an open source code that supports Snowflake as part of the company’s growing strategies to accept more open technology. Petrie noted that it was not difficult to imagine how companies would use Crunchydata technology in the Snowflake platform to create AI applications for common cases, such as telemetry, geo -space and advertising analysis.
Nor is it too surprised to get crunchy data.
“It seems that Crunchy’s growth has been equal in the last few years, so it is no wonder that you can see how they will decide on this departure,” Petria said. “Consolidation wave between data tools and platforms continuous.”
Why does it depend on the business
For business data and artificial intelligence leaders, the acquisition of crispy Snowflake data gets a key point that may already be obvious for some: PostgreSQL matters.
PostgreSQL is not only an open-source alternative to a proprietary relational database. It is an open, widely used platform that quickly becomes a de facto standard for developers and businesses for which AI and Enterprise are building on a scale.
The large hyperscalers, including Google, Amazon and Microsoft, as well as a long list of smaller retailers include EdB, Aiven and NetApp instaclustr already support PostgreSQL.
Now that Snowflake and Databricks throw their support and hang millions of dollars on PostgreSQL, it is clear that businesses should have it as part of their development and AI stacks.
